SPATIAL DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR LAND USE MANAGEMENT OF PORT SAID AREA - EGYPT
SDSS, LAND USE, GLS, RS, PORT SAID
One of the major land reclamation projects in Egypt is going on along El-Salam Canal in Sinai. A part of its western portion in El-Tina Plain was implemented and land was handed over to the holders who started to plant it. However, they failed to grow cereals and some other profitable crops in most of the area due to the high soil salinity and therefore, the land use were shifted to fish farming or left barren. The current study aims at establishing a spatial decision support system to design suitable landuse types that ensure the sustainability of the natural resources of the area under investigation through appropriate management policy. The study area is located at the northwestern part of Sinai Peninsula between longitudes 32º 18' 50"and 32º 31' 40" east, latitudes 31º 00' 00" and 31º 10' 00" north. The northern parts of the study area are closed to Mediterranean Sea.
