EFFECT OF LEAD TREATMENT ON GROWTH, FLOWERING AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF Zinnia elegans PLANT

Two field experiments were carried out at the Agricultural Experiment and Research Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, Giza during 2014-2015 to investigate the effect of Lead soil pollution used as lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 at the rate of (0, 100 and 200 ppm Pb) on the vegetative growth , flower production, chemical constituents and plant growth analysis of zinnia plant (Zinnia elegans) in the presence mycorrhizal fungi (AM) as soil addition; two mycorrhiza treatments by using Glomus mosseae and G. fasciculatum at the rate of 500 and 1000 spores/ pot, brassinosteroids by using 24-epibrassinolide as a foliar spray at 10-6 and 10-8M and silicon by using sodium silicate as a foliar spray at 50 and 100 ppm Si, in addition to the control. Lead treatments decreased all vegetative growth in all samples, flowering characteristics in the third sample. Also, lead caused decrement in chl.a, chl.b, total carotenoids, total chlo, total free amino acid, total sugar, catalase and superoxide dismutase activity and micronutrients concentration. While increment in chl.a/chl.b ratio, total soluble phenols concentration as well as peroxidase activity were recorded in plant under lead treatment compared with control in the two seasons in all samples. On the other hand, a revers trend in two seasons was recorded by the plants treated with mycorrhiza fungi , 24-epibrassinolide and silicon under lead soil pollution, these treatments can be overcome to some extent the hazard effect of lead on Zinnia elegans plants.
