Chemosystematic studies of some species of Lilianae in Egypt
Chemosystematic, Egypt, Flavonoids, Lilianae, Liliiflorae, Liliales, Numerical analysis.
Eleven species belonging to the eleven different families belonging to subclass Lilianae (sensu Reveal 2012) native to Egypt were studied from the botanical, chemical point of view. The botanical part included the study of morphological characters; these vegetative morphological characters were described from both fresh and herbarium specimens. The chemical part included a detailed study of the present flavonoids as a real taxonomic marker for the order, due not only to the great number of occurrences, but also to the high structural diversity. Twenty four compounds were isolated and identified. Their structures were established on the basis of detailed chemical analysis (complete and partial acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis and ferric chloride degradation) as well as spectral analysis (UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESIMS and EIMS). The numerical analyses based on a combination of 440 morphological and chemical character states revealed two phenons, two subgroups and three minor groups, the interrelationships between the studied species were discussed.
