BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF ANTI. ANDROGENIC EFFECT OF SOME PLANTS
Antianclrogen, benign prostatic hyperplasia, flarseed, sesameseecls, safflowel'seeds, soybean seeds 1ld castarted rats
The present stucly was designed to evaluate the anti-androgenic effect of some plants in castrated iats 1flaxseed, sesame Seeds, safflower seeds and ,oyb"* seeds) which were analyzed then petroleum ether: and ethanoi extracts were prepared from these sarnples. Some fnyto.h"*icals s*ch as total phenolic compounds content, fatty acids, 'hyiro"r-lrons and phytosterois contents were determined in all the siudiecl plants. Also the anti-cancer effect of all the plants powder under investigati,on were stucliecl against -prostate cancer using cell-line iectinique.'In the f,rrst experiment of the present studl' flax, sesame' safflower and soybean ,".ds *.t. eyaluated as anti-androgenic agents in castrated/testosterone rats in form ofpetroleum ether, ethanol extracts and whole powder. The nutritional safety of these studied plants and theil extlacts were evaluated through kidneys and liver ftinctions' In the second experiment of this study. the most efficient treatments of the lirst expeiiment were stucliecl in animal model of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPI-I) to evaluate the anti-androgenic effect of the plants uncler stucly in an animal mgdel of BPH. Total cholesterol' rr?ilondialdehyde, testosterone, prostate specific ilrtigen, acid ftrosplratuse and levels*of creatinine and urea were determined as ilclicator of kidneys "fui-iction, while the activitt' of aspartate transaminase and alanine transaminase were cietermined as indicator of liver function. Whole plants powcler showed anti-cancer activity against prostate carcinoma (pC:). ait tne studied agents in the first experimentslro*ecl sigpificant anti-androgenic effect with different degrees thrpugh reduction -& prostate weight and plasma levels of testosterone' Also plasma activities o{ AST ancl ALT showecl non-significaut changes in all stLrclied grolrps ielative to control. These resr'rits revealed that .there vvas a .o*p1.t. safety of the plesent str-rclied plalts. It can be concluded that .ethanol exfact and wholi stgdied plants powder, shor'vepl promising effect towards BPH in animai moclel'
