Comparative Phytochemical And Biological Studies Of Casimiroa Edulis (Llave Et Lex.) And Glycosmis Pentaphylla (Retz.) DC. (Rutaceae) Growing In Egypt
Casimiroa, Glycosmis, protein, mucilage, GC/MS, total alkaloids, isolation, total phenolic contents, antioxidant, antimicrobial, hypoglycemic, hepatoprotective
In the present study, Casimiroa edulis (Llave et Lex.) and Glycosmis pentaphylla (Retz.) DC. family Rutaceae were chosen for their multi-benefits. The study includes the following; preparation of the protein of C. edulis seeds then the protein hydrolysate was analyzed by amino acid analyzer, seventeen amino acids were identified in which glutamic acid (10.25%) was the major amino acid in C. edulis. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis has shown 2 peptide bands by SDS, stained with Commassie blue in which one major band (Rm 0.683 and Mwt 16.009) was detected. Mucilage of C. edulis and G. pentaphylla fruits were prepared and the mucilage hydrolysates were analyzed by GLC in which the total identified sugars were 87.19% for Casimiroa and galacturonic acid (31.23%) was the major sugar. While 97.53% was the total identified sugars for Glycosmis and galactose (58.11%) was the major sugar. The total petroleum ether extracts of C. edulis and G. pentaphylla leaves, fruits and seeds were subjected to saponification followed by GC/MS analysis for the unsaponifiable and saponifiable matters of both plants, different hydrocarbons and sterols were detected in the unsaponifiable matter of both plants in which 5 phenyl undecane was the major HC and γ-sitosterol was the major sterol, in addition to three lipophilic alkaloids have been detected in the Unsaponifiable matter of C. edulis seeds which was dictamnine, 2, 6 dimethoxy-4-methyl-5-8quinolinedione and 4-(2’-hydroxy-5’ methylphenyl)-2-quinolone (12.54%)represented the major alkaloid.
