Evaluation of an Experimental
Nano-Hydroxyapatite Material as a Root Perforation Repair Material
Root Repair Material, Nano-Hydroxyapatite, nano silver, nano technolgy
The aim of the present study was to evaluate an experimental nano hydroxyapatite with and without silver nanoparticles as a root perforation repair material, with regards to: • Synthesis and characterization of the materials. • Physical properties including: setting time, dimensional changes & radiopacity. • Sealing ability • Biocompatibility and mineralization activity. • Anti bacterial activity  Nano hydroxyapatite and nano hydroxyapatite with silver nanoparticles were prepared and characterized using (XRD) & (TEM).  Setting time was evaluated using Gilmore needle, dimensional change was evaluated using a digital caliper and the radiopacity was evaluated using aluminium step wedge.  Sealing ability was evaluated using dye extraction method.  For the evaluation of biocompatibility and mineralization activity; twenty-one rats were divided into 3 groups of 7 rats each according to the observation period of rats (1 week, 30 days, 60 days). Microscopic evaluation was made through a light microscope at X200 magnification.  Evaluation of antibacterial effect: o Microorganisms: Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus. o Evaluation methods: a. Agar diffusion method. b. Direct contact test.
