ROOT YIELD AND QUALITY OF SUGAR BEET (BETA VULGARIS L.) IN RESPONSE TO POTASSIUM FERTILIZATION AND WEED CONTROL TREATMENTS UNDER WATER STRESS CONDITIONS
SUGAR BEET, WATER STRESS, POTASSIUMFERTILIZATION, weed control
Two field experiments were conducted at the Agriculture Research and Experiment Center of Faculty of Agriculture at Moshtohor, Benha University, during the two successive winter seasons of 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 to study the effect of irrigation with three levels of water depletion from field capacity (40,60 and 80%) and four weed control treatments (unweeded, one hand hoeing at 4 weeks after planting, two-hand hoeing at 4+7 weeks after planting and chemical herbicide Harness 84 % EC at the rate of 750 cm3/fad. as pre- emergence) and three elemental potassium fertilizer levels (0.0, 36 and 72 kg K2O/fad.). Split-split plot design with four replicates was used. The irrigation levels were arranged in the main plots, while weed control treatments occupied the sub plots and the potassium fertilizer levels were randomly distributed in the sub-sub plots.
