Development of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Anode using Nanomaterials
Development of Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Anode using Nanomaterials
The main goal of this work is to develop new catalysts for the improvement of the electrocatalytic performance (activity and stability) of DMFC anodes. The main research plan includes: 1) Preparation and characterization ofGraphene oxide sheets and using it as a precursor for Graphene support by chemical oxidation of Graphite via Hummer's method. 2) Synthesis ofgraphene support Pt/Ni, Pt/Co and Pt/Fe alloys nanoparticles as anode electro-catalysts for methanol oxidation in DMFC to replace high cost pure Pt catalyst with higher efficiency and stability. 3) Synthesis of graphene support Pt as electrocatalyst for comparison withPt/Ni, Pt/Co and Pt/Fe results and to have a better understanding of the role of non-precious metals (Ni, Co and Fe) toward Methanol Oxidation Reaction (MOR).
