Phytochemical And Biological Studies On The Phenolic Constituents Of Some Centaurea Species Growing In Egypt (Family Asteraceae
Centaurea, flavonoids, antioxidant activity
Asteraceae, formerly called compositae, is one of the largest families and most economically important plant families with more than 23000 species spread across 1620 genera (Panero JL et al.,2002) . Genus Centaurea, belongs to family Asteraceae, which comprises 500 species (Jeffrey C 2007& Funk VA et al., 2009). The thesis deals with the phytochemical studies of Centaurea glomerata belonging to family Astraceae as well as the biological effect of the plant extract, The plant has been selected to be the subject of this thesis due to its economic importance and the lack of literature concerning its constituents in the current literature. The thesis contains two main parts.
