Environmental friendly preparation and characterization of biogenetic hydroxyapatite composites
Eggshell, Hydroxyapatite, Carboxymethyl cellulose, Porous scaffolds, Zirconia toughened alumina, Composites and In vitro.
Millions of tons of eggshell biowaste materials are generated around the world with huge amounts, causing serious problems in the environment. Although these wastes contain valuable minerals, their use is not widespread. The present work aims at the utilization of henʼs eggshell biowaste in production of pure nano hydroxyapatite powder used in biomedical applications. Characterization of the prepared powder was carried out using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), infrared spectoscopy (IR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The results showed that the prepared powder is composed of pure hydroxyapatite with a particle size ranging between 35 and 122 nm. The prepared nano hydroxyapatite powder was used to prepare: porous, dense and composite ceramic bodies that investigated for their phase composition, microstructure, physical and mechanical properties, and bioactivity.
