EFFECT OF ROOTSTOCK ON GROWTH A]\D PRODUCTIVITY OF SOME GRAPE CULTIVARS

This work was devided into three seperate experiments' The first experiment wasdesignedtoevaluatesomegrapevinecultivarsgraftedondifferentroot Stockscomparingwiththeownrootedcultivarstoresistanceofroot.knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita under green house condition at National ResearchCenter,Giza,Doki.TheobtainedresultsrevealedthatFlamecultivar washightysusceptibletotheinfestationwithM.icognitathanothercultivars. ontheotherhandtherootstocksofSaltcreekandFreedomwereextremely highlyresistancethantheownrootedcultivars.M.incognitainfestationcaused a significant reduction in growth of the own rooted grapevine cultivars Flame' Early sweet, Red Glob and Superior comparing with grafted ones on the nematoderesistantrootstocks,SaltcreekandFreedom.Thefiberfraction(ADL, HemicelluloseandCeltutose)recordedthehighestpercentageincultivars graftedonSaltcreekandFreedomrootstockscomparingwiththeownrooted ones.Prolineandfreeaminoacidwereextremelyhigherintheownrooted cultivars than the rootstocks ones. Under field condition, grape vine varieties graftedonSaltcreekandFreedomproducedthehighestaverageyieldwith nematodeinfestation,intheoppositeownrootedonesproducedthelowest averageyieldwithnematodeinfestation.Thesecondexperimentwasdesigned asapotcultureexperimenttoexaminethetoleranceofdifferentcu]tivars understudytosalinityasaffectbydifferentrootstocks.Differentlevelsof salinity of irrigation water (1OOO' 20OO and 3000 ppm) were used' Results showed that vine growth properties (vine length, inter-node length and number ofleavespervine)weresignificantlydecreasedwiththeincreaseofsalinity levelsamongallvines.Atthehighestsalinitylevel(3000ppm),thesurvivalvine percentage waszero % for own rooted vines, except, the own rooted Flame seedlessthatrecorded50oerce$j-'l]l"survival.Amongthescion-rootstock vines,aboutTo.so%vinesurv.ilIlilhf,oBervedwiththevinesgraftedonSal
